​Tanya is in her early 30’s and struggles with heroin addiction.  To support her habit, she sometimes prostitutes, lies and steals.  Tanya is well-known in the neighborhood, not necessarily because of her addiction and other involvement, but because of her sweet spirit and demeanor.  Tanya desperately wants to get help with her addiction, but because of all the external influences, she cannot seem to kick the habit.  Tanya is in a very unhealthy and abusive relationship with Al, who is the main reason she cannot get and remain clean.  Tanya, although sweet, is manipulative and often sends her mother, Mama G, on a guilt trip for having abused drugs while she was pregnant with her in order to get what she wants.  Tanya is the mother of Isaiah and Malachai.  Tanya did not tell her mother of the pregnancy and birth until after Isaiah was born and with Social Services.  Mama G was not much concerned because of the fact that she, herself was still “doing her thing”.  Both Mama G and Tanya were getting high when Malachai was born; however, she did not hide the pregnancy.  Malachai was more of a concern for the entire family.  Now that Malachai lives with Mama G, Tanya does not come around as often because she is embarrassed in front of her son.  Although it’s the hardest thing she’s ever dealt with, Tanya is going to get clean, or will die trying…

Ms. Turpin is the epitome of a "Bleeding Heart".  Ms. Turpin is the Director of "New Horizons" Drug Treatment Program where she is determined to get addicts "Clean and Serene".  Although she loves people, she is firm and no-nonsense.  The community respects her work and the way she connects with her clients, but can she keep it professional and leave her personal feelings aside...?
